 | | Signa Comp

My name is Jon Mobley, Im a guitarist in Atl, Ga, Playing
professionally know going on 12 years, I play many styles of music and
consider myself an fx conasewer, the signa comp that chad builds are
the best of the best, for the money, for the quality, all around this
pedal is the best comp ive played. compared to barber elec., keeley,
and analogman's price tag, this thing is in a league of its on. It
simpley cant be beat. The comp is very transparent and organic
sounding but at the same time you can get that poppy squishy sound
that guitar comps are known for but without the noise and hiss that a
crappy stock dynacomp or those other production comps out there on the
market. If you want a comp that will produce soft subtle comp sounds
to poppy, squishy sounds that are so popular in pop, funk and country
music its got it all covered. This thing will round out your tone and
make any rig sound better. With 3 simple knobs(also available with
attack knob i think)Tone Level Sustain. The level knob feature sets
this thing apart from the rest, it can instantly be dailed in to add
the right amount of highs or lows. The level is volume control, and
the sustain sets the amount of compression. Overall if you want a
studio grade comp in a stompbox, signa comp is the one. If your
serious about tone, this is the secret weapon of my pedalboard and
works well with the other fx in my signal chain, get this thing,
thanks again chad for making such awesome stuff at afforable prices,
best in the biz. cheers,jmob
Hi Chad, I wanted to give the pedal a good breaking in period to give you more objective, post-"honeymoon" feedback. The Signa-Comp is working out very well...I even like the "lucky penny / root beer float" cosmetics. I
was pleasantly surprised to see a tone control on the comp, since there
isn't one on the website photo. In the last year I've owned a Barber
Tone Press, a Keeley 4-knob, an Analogman Mini Bi-comp, and a custom
double Orange Squeezer clone made for me by Phoenix Custom
Electronics...all excellent pedals in one way or another. I can say
without reservation that none of them retain my guitar's top end quite
like the Signa Comp---nice job! I like the long sustain available, but
even more, I like that the uber-sustain kicks in only on the far right
on the sustain knob...I found the Keeley squishes too hard too early in
the dial. I also found a setting where it "growls" a little, like the
Orange Squeezer (one of my fave compressor sounds)...nice. The Signa is
definitely the most versatile compressor of the lot. As for the Signa
Drive side...it took a few gigs to get a grip on dialing it in...lots of
options here...found my sweet spot. You're right...it covers the low to
medium gain sounds very well. This is definitely one-stop shopping for
compression /overdrive, as I hoped it would be. Not only does it clean
up well when backing off the guitar volume (even with the comp on!), but
it retains the guitar's treble while doing so...that makes for a whole
spectrum of usable tones, instead of a compromised, dull "cleaned up"
tone...it still cuts. I previously used a Barber LTD Silver for
this...I believe this sounds even more organic...so clear that I felt a
little naked up front in the mix! (a good thing; I just have to get used
to it). I'm curious...do the 3 switch settings approximate the sound of
the Browny, Tube Slammer, and Buttah?
Anyway, thanks for a marvelous space-saving pedal. I think you'll sell
a bunch of these as people catch on...
Happy Holidays,
Jay Mullens
Got the Comp-Drive last week! Thanks for such a quick build - I just got my KR Megavibe which I waited 3.5 months so it is quite refreshing to have received your monster pedal so fast! The Comp-Drive will be a keeper. It's overdrive is fantastic with the clean channel of my Guytron GT-20. This was the main concern I had in our previous communications. It really does sound like the clean channel with a little overdrive - no alteration of the tone, no annoying feel masking my amp/guitar character. What a relief! This frees up the amp's distortion channel to handle the heavier tones at which it excels. The comp is great in making the amp's distortion channel sustain wonderfully. I had to go through some re-thinking about my rig because I didn't have a nice, lighter, throaty OD that the Signa provides - I was sorely missing this with my previous set up. So, your pedal has fit very nicely to my needs:
A) Clean: Guytron GT-20 clean channel
B) Light OD: Signa OD on clean channel
C) Heavier Distortion: Guytron distortion channel
D) Atmospheric Pad sound: Guytron distortion channel + Signa Comp + H&K Replex
I can sell my compressor and my distortion pedals and save a lot of pedalboard space and keep my wife relieved about the budget! I know there's a lot more experimentation to do and that my enjoyment of your pedal will only increase. I played this rig at church yesterday and it has been a long time since I've been so comfortable with my "tools". Thanks for your awesome support and your awesome pedal!
Frank
Just got the pedal. Wow Chad. I had never heard of you before, and frankly I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I rarely go out on a limb like this and buy something that I haven't heard, or heard OF before. I'm so glad I did! This pedal is unreal man. The last "boutique" OD pedal I tried without hearing was the Analog King of Tone V.4. For the money, not impressed at all. This pedal was exactly what I was looking for. BTW, I don't know if anyone has dibs on any future pedals of yours, but I love collecting low serial number pedals. I would love first shot to purchase any of your future prototypes or serial #1's (or any you might have laying around) if possible. Again, very happy with the pedal. Keep building em!
Jason
Chad.... I got the SCD.... I tell ya.... this thing is a winner... your comp is spectacular in its own right. I had original comps from the 70's as well as other boutique comps.... I've moved through 6 comps over the last few years before settling on one for day in day out board use....
And I do mean, settling... In the past I might like one comp for its depth and another for its subtle nature... your comp is THE NAIL ON THE HEAD.... that's it... like the third bed in the tale, "just right".... it is so useful where it sits in the mix. your comp allows for snappy maple board tele runs without a leash holding it back.... and when paired with an OD, your comp allows the drive to smooth into velvet without syrup or mud.. perfect pick and placement of comps in a comp...
And your Deeelay has proven the CMATMODS were meant to be stepped on... reliable and sure with every stomp.
then the OD of the SCD.... I have always been a 12 pedal kind of OD guy.... you just knocked 8 of them into the for sale bin.... you'll see my postings soon..... my 70's fuzz and 808's will go up also... i don't those old chips anymore... really pleased with the range of the Signal Drive side... I can do a lot now with the SCD only or use it with other drives for certain tones. a drive pedal for me has to lend its signature > in musical manner to any combination of single coil/humbucker/british/american/clean/ultra heavy/maple/mahogany signal i throw at it... most recent drives are fine with one type of amp, but don't hang with multiple amps and gutar combinations. . my requirements for a good drive include the blessings of my fender esquire, blackface, Gibson Les Paul, 69 park 75 half stack, and all of my gig gear by Dr. Z, THD, Fender, and Gibson... amazing how your SD side can roll with the punches...
thanks, man... let me know when your next pedal hits the street..... wanna do a wah? faselmat-like?

Here is what people are saying about my Signa Drive
Whats up Chad!! I've been playin the Signa Drive & I can't understand how you've got all my favorite tones in there???? Wow man you are one in a million, don't change man. You offer the best OD "I've ever played", your a down to earth guy & you offer the pedal at a fair price. Thank you so much. It is truly a treat to have my tone comming from my amps. God blessed you very much & you share that blessing without tring to rip people off. Your one of a kind. Thank you. I only wish I could have bought one 20 years ago. :o) Peace bro!!! Chris Straccia (Scorpio inc.)
Perfect!!!!
O.K. here I go. With the gain all the way down the toggle doesn't really do anything. The more you increase the gain the more the toggle will affect the tone. With the gain all the way up the toggle becomes more of a factor. But it only adds a tiny bit of well, "compression", not much just enough to give it a little extra gain. Let me sum this up by saying you make one hell of a pedal. I couldn't thank you enough. I bought the Lovepedal COT50 & the Woody 5E3. I thought I liked the Lovepedal stuff and was going for the Eternity but then I came across your Signa-Drive. Like I said in previous emails I was looking for a pedal that would replace my 1980 TS808 W/JRC chip. I also wanted an excellent Plexi type of pedal. This pedal enabled me to sell the TS808, COT50, Woody 5E3 & a few xtra pieces I had lying around. I'll be looking for an 18 watt Marshall clone (if you want to build me one I'm all o ver that). The Signa-Drive gives you complete control over your tone, volume & gain it’s also priced very well & sounds so good I feel somewhat guilty for not paying 4 times as much as I did. I also have a Maxon AD-80 I’ll look to replace soon with your Deeelay. Thanks again for you patience & an outstanding pedal I wish I had since the beginning of my years playing. Your the S*%T Chad. May Peace, Love & Happiness follow you wherever you may go.. Chris Thomas (ChrisThomasBand.com)
Hello there again. I know I e-mailed you previously
but wanted to let you know that I used your pedal in a
live setting yesterday for the first time. I play at
church for both sunday services and wed. bible study.
This thing was perfect. It sounded incredible. It is
the only pedal I have used so far that actually sounds
like an amplifier when turned on. Real impressed.
Tonal integrity is unlike anything I have used thus
far. Once again thanks. Bob.
Wow! Finally a pedal that really is worth every penny
I spent. Usually there is something about every drive
pedal that I don't like. Something you can't put your
finger on yet it's there. Your pedal does not have
that at all!!! The three different modes make me want
three of these. You really did an amazing job with
this pedal. I noticed there is a natural compression
in the sound that is just right. I usually do not like
compression but this is tasteful. I play in a church
worship band and contrary to popular belief, we rock
at times. This will be a perfect compliment to me set
up. Once again thanks. Keep it up.
Sincerely Bob Higgins.
hi Chad, I just got to say how happy I am with the SD,
it is an amazing pedal at this price!!......after a
few days with it I cant believe how good it sounds in
my rig it just gets better and better the more I play
around with it, it's great with my humbucker guitars
and incredible with my strat, thanx again and all the
best! scott
Hi Chad.
The pedals came on Monday just in time for me to take them on their first outing to a local jam night that i host. The players there were very impressed by the new tones i was getting out of my Ltd edition hand wired AC30.. the compresser really brings out the highs of the dark amp and sustains for ever... The Sigma drive part of the pedal is one of the most versatile overdrives i have ever owned... one of my favourite guitarists at the jam stated it sounded better than my Klon,,, and i have to agree... how ever much it pains me considering what the Klon cost me! The Delay is a sheer thing of beauty! shimmering, articulate and warm is one description but it does not entirely convey the transparent tones that this pedal produces. Best regards and many thanks. Nic Elsby
Hey Chad, I have owned the following:
Direct Drive, Eternity Burst, Duncan twin Tube, Butler, Bad Cat Extreme Tone, Cusack, Bad Monkey, and others I can't recall right now.
Not one of them, even the beloved Eternity, has sounded better than the Signa Drive.

I just recieved my Signa today and I have to say, This by far the best pedal I have ever owned in my 25 years of playing guitar. I looked and looked for my own sound for years and I could never really be satisfied with what I was getting until now. I left you a positive feedback on ebay and also a very good review on Harmony Central. I will be getting back with you soon to mod my Cry Baby. I will tell every musician I know about you. You do very, very good work. This pedal screams quality. I am very impressed. Thank you very much, Rusty
Hey Chad,
Wow!!!!! That's all I can say about this pedals. Truly amazing. You weren't kidding about this Signa drive holy cow I can get any sound I want out of this box... I receive the pedals yesterday they went straight from my front porch to my board... Superb job I couldn't be more pleased with your products. They have blown me out of the water numerous times. THANK YOU!!!!!! I should be receiving your cable here in about a week or so. I just got an email from them saying they were starting to make it.. Soon as I get it, it's coming your way.. Have you ever thought about making tube effects?? I'm sure a lot more time goes into them. I'm going to pick up a new BD-2 soon so when I send your cable it will have a new BD-2 with it for the h20 mod... How was vacation???? Anyway man just wanted to touch base with ya to see how is everything.
Hope all is well,
D
Hi Chad,
The Signa Drive arrived today. I've had only 30 minutes to play with it but all I can say is "WOW"! This is one amazing overdrive/distortion pedal! In the 30 minutes I ran it with both a Strat and an LP and it was absolutely beautiful with both.
I'll be able to spend more time with it later in the week in order to really get a fix on it. But its everything you state on your website - extremely touch sensitive (responds almost like a class "a" amp - and I have 2 to compare it to ... I was playing it through an a/b). Its transparent and extremely harmonically rich, the distortion is full and yet note clarity is top notch - in short its simply a wonderfully expressive tool for a guitar player!
Thank you for a great product Chad. The Tube Slammer is good, but this one is truly great! I'll post a review of it on Harmony Central later when I get some free time. Cheers,
Marti K.
Chad, First, a big thanks for getting me my Signa Drive out so quickly. It arrived
today and I really, really like it. You have every reason to be very proud
of it.
A quick "review"if I may? Let's see where do I start...even at the highest
gain setting, it remained very transparent and the sound of each of my Strat
pickups came thru very nicely...Again, at the highest gain setting, cleaned
up very well with the guitars volume knob...It reacted the same way an old
late 70's Marshall MKII master volume head I used to have. It was pretty
dirty but, clear at the same time. When I hit the strings harder, it liked
that but, picking softly allowed each single note to come thru with sustain
and fullness. A very nice balance of tonality. Mids were not over bearing,
treble not spikey, and bass not flabby. I liked the fact it was not overly
gainy because , IMO, a lot of gain means the sound of the guitar gets
covered up or colored in some way. Not so with this pedal. On my Strat with
the gain all the way up, my favorite sound so far, I could even tell a
difference where I was picking the string, close to the neck or right by the
bridge. Please feel free to quote me if you would care to. I think others
should know how good the Signa Drive is.
I do have a question. Is the setting on toggle switch all the way up
supposed to have a lot less output that the other two? The middle was the
loudest and down, my favorite, was a little less than the middle. BTW, what
is each of the settings anyway?
Again, thank you so much and I will post a very good review on HC when I get
some time.

I am Rickie Fox. I own a recording studio where I record my own stuff and produce projects for other local and regional artists. In the studio I connect my pedal board to a Custom Audio Electronics 3 SE preamp and then on to a Mesa Boogie tube power amp. After much trial and error I purchased one of Chad’s Deelay pedals on line. I have many rackmount effects avaliable, but this pedal gave me exactly the delay effect I was looking for. Very musical and not so digital. Extremely versatile , very user friendly, and built like a tank I was so impressed I bought a Signa Comp compressor. Same high quality construction, very low noise for a compressor, and does what a compressor is supposed to do without mangling my tone and without that “sucking” sound that usually appears before the compressor adds enough sustain and body Although the overdrive channels on my preamp sound great, I bought a Signa Drive and put it on my pedal board. This thing sounds super! I still use the channels on my preamp. but the Signa Drive is so versatile, I find plenty of uses for it, and just through the clean channel of my amp it will add tons of gain and overdrive that once again is very musical. I have a Tube Screamer with the silver mod, and the Signa Drive is more useful to me These pedals provide the most “bang for the buck” that I could find. Here is a clip from my Latest CD, “Monomusical”. (Check out "I get blamed for everything I do" and "Bypass Blues")
Chad,
I received my signa-drive today and got a chance to test it out. I am impressed. This is by far the best compliment to a fender amp that anyone could ask for. I have compared this to the Fulltone OCD pedal and while they are different tones, they are the same texture and direction of sound. Honestly this sounds more amp like than my OCD which claims to be an amp sounding pedal but get too thin on cleaner sounds (I love the OCD with high gain tones). The drive on the Signa Drive does NOT get all whinny and thin at ANY gain levels, it simply drives and pushes. Its reminds me of an old Tweed deluxe or my blues deluxe (obviously it can do more gain than those amps but I would just say its in that direction with the dynamics!). I am so impressed how this handles every angle and keeps guitars so pure. It also has that feeling of a slight vintage compressor or a fat boost where it makes the tone sound wider and more full that it was with just the amp! IMPRESSIVE! This pedal is one of those pedals that sounds good with all diffrent gain structures (clean and dirty, I have never found a pedal that does that for me!)
I only wish I had the money to get more of your products but down the road I will definitely purchase more...and tell me friends! (well...I guess my pedal will do that talkin...) Thanks again!
-Matt

Hi Chad,
I wanted to give you the results of my compressor pedal "shootout" I held a couple weeks back.
Here were the pedals represented:
- Analogman Compressor with attack knob
- Keeley Compressor 2 knob
- RMC FK-1 (G. Teese made)
- Barber Tone Press
- GoudieFX Comp
- Signa Comp 3 knob
Three Blues/Classic Rock guitarists with over 70 years of combined experience performed the review.
Equipment used: Les Paul and USA Strat, with a Timmy overdrive through a Rivera Chubster 55.
All testing was done at unity volume. Attack knobs were all set at mid range.
Here is the straight up results of your pedal:
- Tied with Barber Tone Press for least amount of noise in the usable range.
- Voted most musical sounding
- Voted brightest
- Scored average in amount of compression available
- Scored average in "Fit and Finish"
- Voted most versatile because of Tone control
- Voted most attractive styling
- Tied with Keeley as most transparent
I liked it the best of the bunch. Let me know if you have any questions.
Best regards, Keith
Amazing!!!
I received the pedal a couple of days ago and with excitement I immediately plugged it in. I hooked up the Keeley Comp. and the Signa Comp. side by side and it was like night and day. The Signa comp. delivers a much smoother and crystal clear tone. It doesn't over compress like most other compressors making the tone sound brittle and flat. Chad, this pedal is a work of art. I've never heard anything like it. It's so quiet, it's scary. Definitely 20 out of 10...I would like to have any product you produce because your stuff is outstanding!! I will give you more feedback on it later this week. I've already gotten compliments on how great it sounds. Thanks again for the opportunity to represent your company. - D
P.S. I'm getting the rest of the band to sign your CD…I'll be sure to get it out to you as soon as possible.
I want to thank you for your fast shipping of the signa comp pedal. It was waiting at my door friday when I got home from work. My band had a gig at the best club in town Friday night and I used the pedal without even trying it out. AWESOME ... it made my Mesa dual rec sound even better than ever. All channels rang out loud and even. My leads never sounded better. We play all types of music,so from the funk, beach, hard rock and slow ballads this pedals is the best...I have your delay which I have already told you is awesome.........Thank you for making these pedals...Tim
OMG Chad what a compressor pedal! I have never heard a more QUIET transparent compressor pedal in my life. By the way, this Signa Comp is a very SERIOUS clean boost with a ton of headroom. In fact I don't need the Keeley Java Boost any more. Thanks again for prompt shipment, and a pedal that actually does what a studio grade compressor will do as I have worked with many of those. I am interested in some of your other pedals when I get caught up at work so I'll be in touch in about 2 weeks.

Hello, My name is Eiji Yamaguchi from Japan.
I've got your 4 knob Ross Clone through eBay.
It arrived safely about 2 days ago and I brought it to my work today.
(I make my living playing guitar for Japanese singers)
Hey, Your comp sounds GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best one I ever used. I've been using comp for over 25years.
I have Very first Orange squeezer, script dyna and Grey Ross and tried almost every comp out on the market.Your's beets every one.
I tried Keeley and I didn't like them, they change the original guitar sound. Analog man was OK but since I have Grey Ross I didn't need it.
I was waiting for some one to put TONE control on Ross and finally you did it.
Only thing I didn't like about the Grey Ross.... looses high end.......
Also, I don't know how you made it so smooth without using the original 2SC1849.
Anyway..... Thank you for making the great comp and hope your products become a standard choice for guitar players.
The best regards
Eiji

Here is what people are saying about my Deeelay pedals.
Hey Chad, I got a chance to play the Deelay that you sent out to me...it sounds absolutely great...I love it. I'm a real delay junkie (currently own Echoczar, SIB blue and red echodrives, Mad Professor DBD, DD2 and DD3 with analogman's hi-cut mod)...I found your deelay to be similar to the Mad Professor. In any case, it's a simple yet perfect sounding delay...a clear repeat, without being sterile or digitized, very nice, natural trail, not muddy...the note stands out and cuts through, and handles overdrive well...all I could ask for. thanks so much, Hyram

Hi Chad,
Just got the Delay and it's as brilliant as I've come to expect from you. On a different note, I like the tube slammer so much that my beloved Keeley TS-9 (which is objectively very good) is going on eBay, and I'll use the money towards the Signa Comp-Drive. Any help with the price of that one will be greatly appreciated!

Tube Slammer: The deal is that Chad's pedal (CMATMOD) nails the sound of a driven tube amp...period. I A/B'd the TubeSlammer (true-bypass) against my amp cranked at 10 (the Torres Mod is great) and then dialed in the pedal... the TubeSlammer nailed it. Tons of low end (if you want it)... Tons of gain (if you want it)... Transparent... Quiet (plenty of overhead). I don't have anything bad to say about this pedal. It's the perfect Overdrive. It's not a metal player's pedal, it's too organic (if that make sense). Have Chad mod your fav pedal if you need that metal sound

Phat Boost: This is not an over the top clean boost. It is a boost that phattens up your sound, livens it up. It does provide a good jump in gain though, so I think it is somewhat suitable for lead. But even more useful to just phatten up your sound. It sounds just superb, best boost sound I've had so far (compared to Sommatone, SPF Ego Boost and Jersey Girl Plusdriver)
This pedal is also dead quiet.

Boss DS-1 MOD: Using it with a Gibson Les Paul w/ an Iommi PU in the neck & Duncan Invader PU in the bridge into a Fender MusicMaster Bass amp (Torres Mod). I A/B'd the CMATMOD'd pedal against a stock BOSS DS-1... whoa... the difference is amazing. The low ends stand out and it's less "raspy" of a distortion. It really does sound like a recorded Marshall amp... it just has that quality that's undeniably "Marshall". Your guitar and amp are still a major factor, but dang if this pedal doesn't make you sound like you're in a studio.
I'm selling my Keeley BD-2 on eBay. Your pedal clearly has more dynamic range, and us Blues guys love that stuff! Bob M.
